HMS Commonwealth, a pre dreadnaught Battleship of the King Edward VII class was built at Fairfield - Glasgow, laid down on the 17th June 1902, launched 13th May 1903 and completed March 1905. Started her service with the Royal Navy in the Atlantic fleet in 1906 being transferred in May 1907 to the Channel Fleet. In 1907 HMS Commonwealth was involved in a collision with HMS Albemarle and also in the same year she became grounded in August. In April 1909 HMS Commonwealth went to the 2nd Division of the Home Fleet and temporarily in 1913 to the Mediterranean. At the outbreak of World War One she joined the 3rd Battle squadron of the Grand Fleet in August 1914. She went in to refit in December 1914 to February 1915 and had major reconstruction work done in 1918, including anti torpedo bulges and a tripod mast with director control. She also had her 6 inch guns replaced with four 6 inch guns positioned a deck higher. Between 1919 and 1921 served as a sea going gunnery training ship at Invergordon until she was scrapped.
